The Land Lines project was initiated by Burg Hülshoff – Center for Literature (CfL), the program division of the Annette von Droste zu Hülshoff Foundation. From 2024 to 2026, the project demonstrated how art can be actively shaped in rural areas. This publication showcases art and culture’s immense potential to strengthen living spaces, address important issues, foster identity, and promote community. Examples include performances, workshops, covered wagon rides, and discussion forums. The book addresses the questions, conversations, and working relationships that emerged during the project and develops them further.
The collected texts explore artistic residencies, modes of production, co-creation, multilingualism, and rural narratives. The result is an artistic research laboratory on rural life in the 21st century. Land Lines reveals that when people become creators themselves, the outcome is not only art but also a newfound awareness of their living environment.
