The exhibition catalogue Die Weite und das Detail combines paintings by Simone Lucas and Sven Kroner with a joint installation. It emphasises the artist's exploration of the depiction of micro- and macrocosms in the context of a contemporary form of New Objectivity.
The painter and the artist have each developed their own artistic idiosyncrasies with which they deal with the precise perception and detailed depiction of the world and people, examining the relationship between small, unremarkable elements and large, complex systems. This precise observation of things reflects the principles of New Objectivity, which combine realistic depictions with an objective, almost scientific perspective - and go beyond this. The particularly precise and detailed depiction of visible reality is characterised by a certain mysteriousness or magic in the seemingly everyday scenes. The confrontation of microcosm and macrocosm also lends the paintings a magical supernatural quality.
The precision and attention to detail of Lucas' and Kroner's works, as well as the emotional and conceptual depth of their works, simultaneously thematise the major global and social issues of our time - comparable to those of the transformation of about a century ago.
